Almost all of us vegans and vegetarians are animal lovers; that’s a big reason why we don’t eat or use animal products, right? But when it comes to feeding our pets, many of u still give them normal, meaty dog food. Isn’t this contradictory?
When a friend posed this question to me, I had to do my research and find a solution. And it turns out there are a ton of great animal product-free dog foods that are super healthy and delicious for pets!
Here’s just a few uber cool options:
V-Dog
V-Dog is a vegan dog food company owned by a vegan Californian family. All of their products are plant-based, and include kibble, bones and even an “I’m a Vegan” bandana! You can order their products on their website (v-dog.com) or find them in locations across the country, and the world!
Halo
Another great vegan dog food option is Halo. This brand is popular with Ellen Degeneres, TV queen and part owner of the company. Halo has two vegan/vegetarian options: their vegan garden medley and vegetarian peanut and pumpkin treats. On top of creating animal-friendly pet food, Halo donates over 1 million meals to shelter pets every year. You can pick up some Halo for your pooch at pet stores like Petco and online.
PetGuard
Your dog will love their vegan and vegetarian canned dog food from PetGuard, and their Mr. Barky’s vegetarian dog treats. You can get PetGuard online at sites such as Chewy and Amazon.
PETA
Lastly, if you feel like taking matters into your own hands, PETA has it’s own homemade vegan dog food recipe.
With a little research and shopping, it is possible to have vegan dogs. Just as you are leaving a smaller footprint on the world, your dog will leave an even smaller paw print.
